"Oh." Moonkit sat down, "What's a mentor again? I forgotted." She rolled over on her back and showed her belly.

(( Not the most literate kit, is she? ))

"A mentor is..." Orange started to explain, but he couldn't think of how to put the words without confusing Moonkit further.

"A mentor is the warrior that teaches the apprentice important skills, such a fighting and hunting," Bravesoul explained.

((xDD Not yet. Btw, I think Moonkit should be apprenticed at the end of January, and Rabbitpaw can be made a warrior then too. Maybe.))

"Ohhhh," Moonkit smiled and looked at Orange, "Why is your name different?"

[—ƒrostyy—]

"Well, I, um... I was a kittypet before this, but some bad things happened and I left. So I came here," Orange said uncomfortably. He didn't like to talk about his past.

"Oh," Moonkit sighed, "Where's your mentor?"

"I, er, don't have one," Orange said looking at his paws. "I should probably talk to Wildstar about that, too," he added under his breath.

"Oh," Moonkit sat up and shook her paws, "So you're a kit, like me? How old are you? I'm half a moon. I like questions. Do you? I'm hungry."

[—ƒrostyy—]

"No, I'm not a kit. I'm only a moon younger than your mother, and I don't care much for questions, although sometimes I like them. If you want something to eat, you'll have to wake your mother, since you're not old enough for freshkill," Orange said, licking his paw.

"Oooh, you're good." Moonkit paused," I thought I had gotten you!" Moonkit rolled over to Orange's paws and smiled.

"Got me? What ever do you mean by that?" Orange purred in his most innocent voice while pulling his other paw out from under Moonkit so he could lick it.

Bravesoul sat there feeling akward, thinking he should say something. "Why don't I go speak to Wildstar about you getting a mentor, Orange? I could, since Rabbitpaw's not fit for training, and I think Mintblossom was asking earlier if she could be a mentor." It was more of an announcement of his departure than an offer. It was unpleasant to sit there watching Orange being interrogated by his own kit.

Orange picked up on Bravesoul's not-so-subtle subtlety. "Sure, thanks, Bravesoul," he mewed politely as he watched the warrior squeeze out of the nursery.

((Mintblossom was actually asking to be a mentor. xDD))
"Uhm, confuzened you!" Moonkit rolled over and watched Bravesoul walk away, "Bye Bravesoul! Come back soon!" She looked up at Orange. "I'm tired," she announced.

A narrow shaft of sunlight broke through the heavy tree cover and formed a golden patch of warmth on the forest floor in front of the warrior den. In this beam of light lay a heap of rising and falling red fur, dotted with bold black and occasional streaks of gray. The cat was old, no doubt soon to join the elders, but there was energy and fighting spirit left in him. He would stay a warrior as long as possible- but that's not to say that he didn't spend a lot of time sleeping.
"Tigerfang!"
The call came from a powerfully built cat creeping across camp, tufted ears raised as he watched for a sign that his former mentor was awake. "Tigerfang!" he called again, this time closer, and Tigerfang stirred.
"What do you want, Whitehawk?" he growled, lifting his head slightly.
"I was looking for a few cats to go out hunting with me," he replied cheerfully. "I figured you'd want to get out of camp and do something, you've been here all day. You up for it?"
Tigerfang growled in irritation at the interruption, but he could hardly refuse without looking lazy. "Very well," he sighed. "Let's gather some others, then we'll head out."
Whitehawk gave a happy bounce at Tigerfang's acceptance and turned to rocket off across the clearing, looking for other cats to join his hunt.

Orange smiled. "Bye, Bravesoul!" He turned back to Moonkit. "Well, maybe next time. But I'm warning you, I'm pretty un-confusable," he picked up Moonkit by the scruff and set her next to her mother. "Why don't you take a nap with your mom, hm?"

Bravesoul poked his head back into the nursery. "Goodbye, Moonkit," he cooed softly. "I'll be back later, okay?" He turned his dark green eyes to Orange. "Bye, Orange."
He pulled his head back out of the nursery, and turned to survey the camp. It looked like Whitehawk and Tigerfang were going to go hunting. Well, he thought, I was going to go hunting anyway, I might as well go with them.
He trotted over to Whitehawk, who looked much more enthusiastic about the whole thing than Tigerfang, and asked, sounding more nervous than he meant to, "Can I go hunting with you two?"

Wildstar shifted her paws uncomfortably. She racked her brain for a moment, "Hm, what about Orange? He should be getting a mentor soon, since he's staying with the Clan."

"That'd be great," Whitehawk chirped happily. Tigerfang nodded at Bravesoul, looking towards the exit with a great sigh.
"Is three cats enough?" he asked gruffly, and Whitehawk flicked his ear playfully with the tip of his bushy tail.
"Don't be so bitter, Tigerfang," he said. "We're going hunting, it's gonna be great! It's a nice day for leaf-bare."
"You say that with your long coat," Tigerfang grumbled. "I'm freezing my tail off. I just want to get out and moving, better then standing here while my whiskers freeze."
"Okay, okay," Whitehawk said. "Let's go, then. C'mon, Bravesoul!" he called, bounding towards the camp exit. Tigerfang rolled his eyes before padding off after him.

Bravesoul grinned. Tigerfang and Whitehawk were pretty entertaining, even if they didn't mean to be. He followed them, flexing his claws on the way. He couldn't wait to get hunting.

"I hear something!" Whitehawk announced. He stopped in his tracks and perked his ears, looking around for the source of the scrabbling noise.
"How can you hear a thing with all that fur in your ears?" Tigerfang asked. "Mouse over there, plain as day. I'll get it, don't-"
"No, I got it!" the white cat said enthusiastically, and shifted into a crouch, sliding as quietly as possible across the forest floor until he was within pouncing distance.
He sprang straight through a clump of tall grass and pinned the rodent with his claws, sinking his teeth deep into its throat to kill it.
He carried it over and put it down with a sigh. "Scrawny little thing... But it's fresh-kill. Even the prey doesn't want to miss a bit of sunshine in leaf-bare."

Bravesoul's whiskers twitched with amusement. "I know I don't. Nice catch, Whitehawk," he mewed. His ears pricked when he heard the scratching of vole's claws. "Be right back," he said quietly, going into the hunting crouch. He silently glided over the ground until he was close enough to pounce. The vole had stopped moving, maybe it had spotted him, but it was too late. He leaped and narrowly caught it, giving it a swift bite to the neck. The vole was quite plump for leafbare. He'd bring it to Rabbitpaw, he thought. He picked up his vole and brought it back to Whitehawk and Tigerfang, setting it down next to Whitehawk's mouse.
