Shinepaw nodded and dropped into a hunter's crouch. Inching forward, she spotted the thrush pecking at the ground, looking for something. Better aim high, she thought, it'll fly away when it hears you. Thinking about this, she prepared herself to pounce and leaped at the bird. Sure enough, the bird started to fly away, but Shinepaw caught it in mid-air and brought it back down to the earth. The thrush gave a small shudder and lay still.

Shinepaw giggled. "I do that all the time. It gets to be fun, after a while!"
Swallowtail couldn't help but laugh. Shinepaw wasn't the most coordinated of all the apprentices, she was the most clumsy. Trying not to get distracted from hunting, she pulled herself away and started to hunt.

Mouse silently crept through the forest. She longed to be back with her family. While she was thinking about how she missed the warmth of others she smelt a strange smell. "It smells like other cats!" she whispered with excitment. She started to run ,but had to stop and rest. She hadn't eaten in days.

Shinepaw eagerly bounded away to find another mouse or something like that. Creeping into a bunch of ferns, she caught the scent of a mouse and pounced. Instead of feeling a little warm body, however, she hit another cat. "Ohmigod, I'm so sorry!" she said, getting to her paws. "Hey, you're not in SmokeClan."

And my mentor, Lightstar, she's the leader of the whole Clan, and my older sister Swallowtail is the deputy, and we're on patrol hunting food!" She finished and caught her breath.
